L'IFT herbicides canne à sucre à La Réunion : premières estimations

Abstract : The French government established in 2008 the "Ecophyto Plan", which aims to reduce the use of pesticides in agriculture by 50% by 2018. Several indicators have been deployed to evaluate the efficacy of the adopted measures. The treatment frequency index (French abbreviation IFT) is the reliable measure at both territory and crop scale. In Reunion Island, herbicides used on sugarcane arethe most widely used pesticides. The unique pattern of sugarcane crop in Reunion Island allowed us to assess the IFT of sugarcane at the “Reunion” territory scale from the official herbicide sale database, available since 2009: the average IFT value for the first 3 years period (2009-2011) is 3.64labeled doses per hectare and per year. This value is closed to the initial average established at thecrop scale from the 9 farms monitored by the Ecophyto sugarcane farm project (called DEPHY FERME Canne) since 2011.
