| Agricultural advisory services are of strategic importance for farmers. It is a key driver for promoting innovation process. However, changes in national and global contexts in which the farms are part cause dramatic changes in the orientation of advisory services, their organization and their methods of intervention. Although many articles has been written in recent decades on agricultural advice, few studies provide an overview of contributions and debates existing in the scientific literature. This work, based on an extensive literature review, over a period of ten years, aims at characterising the major research topics related to agricultural advice, and the main teams involved. The ongoing debates and disciplines, methods, objects, schools of thought and research positions are analysed under five main themes: 1) the institutional environment and institutional arrangements necessary for the operation of an advisory system, 2) changes in demand and supply of advisory services, 3) the skills deployed in advisory activities, 4) the aproaches, methods, tools and content of the advisory activities; 5) the assessment and impacts of advisory systems. This synthesis offers a broad view of research conducted within the international scientific sphere, and pave the way to future research in the field of agricultural advisory services. |
